You'll enjoy breathtaking sound quality and superb performance when you add the 10-disc Kenwood Excelon KDC-CX87 to your changer-controlling Kenwood receiver. The zero-bit mute circuit, Quad 1-bit D/A converter, and DRIVE distortion reduction circuitry all contribute to this changer's sonic excellence.
Not much space in the cab of your vehicle? Don't worry — with three possible mounting angles (0, 45, or 90 degrees), and a small footprint (less than a foot wide), you can install the KDC-CX87 in a location that's out of the way.
Do you have a CD burner? The KDC-CX87 plays CD-Rs and CD-RWs of your home mixes, and even decodes CD Text you've entered (text-compatible Kenwood receiver required). You can also make up your own disc names for up to 100 changer discs. |

Features
- Digital Optimum Servo Control (DOSC): This circuitry enables the CD changer to determine each disc's reflection rate and the modulation rate of its pits, enabling the changer to set the ideal servo gain for each disc. DOSC also adjusts servo gain and balance when it encounters vibration, scratches, dust, or fingerprints, reducing mistracking and skipping.
- Precision Digital Timing (DPAC): A high-precision master clock circuit that is isolated from signal-processing circuits to eliminate interference. This ensures that digital information is processed at exactly the same rate as it was recorded, eliminating jitter (time-based errors that make music sound harsh).
- Integrated Quad 1-Bit Digital-to-Analog Converter: Four digital-to-analog converters, two for each channel, improve playback sound quality, including musical detail and resolution. Using two converters for each channel reduces distortion by half.
- Anti-Vibration Disc Transport: The disc transport mechanism uses soft butyl rubber insulators for exceptional shock resistance, along with ceramic-injected silicon oil that absorbs jarring vibrations even at extreme temperatures, reducing skipping and mistracking.
- D.R.I.V.E. (Dynamic Resolution Intensive Vector Enhancement): This circuit uses several digital low-pass filters and extremely high-speed digital switching to eliminate digital distortion, improving musical clarity and detail.
- 0-Bit Mute: This feature shuts off the digital-to-analog converter output during silent passages, yielding absolute silence between songs.
- CD Compatibility: This unit will play prerecorded CDs, finalized CD-R discs, and finalized CD-RW discs.
- CD Text: When playing CD Text encoded CDs, this changer will transmit the data for display on compatible Kenwood head units equipped with CD Text display capability.
- Disc Naming: When used with a compatible head unit, the changer allows Disc Naming for 100 discs.
- Mounting Angles: You can install this changer at a 0-5 degree, 40-50 degree, or 85-90 degree angle. There are angle switching dials on both sides of the unit that must be set to agree with the mounting angle of the unit.
- 2nd Changer Connection: This changer has two CD changer DIN connectors. One DIN connector is for the cable that is provided for connection to a head unit; the second connector (covered by a cap) can be used to daisy chain a 2nd Kenwood CD changer if the head unit being used has a built in changer switching function.
- AUX Input: There is a set of RCA inputs on the left side of the unit (each one covered with a cap). A small slide switch on the bottom of this model allows you to set this aux input to ON or OFF. When the AUX switch is set to ON, you cannot control a second changer through the additional DIN input. The unit attached to the RCA input should have its output level adjusted to match the output level of the CD changer. The input level of any auxiliary component cannot exceed 1400mV. Note: When the AUX input is used, the changer controller connected to this changer will not control the auxiliary devices functions, and the Kenwood head unit being used must be capable of switching between dual changers.
- O-N switch: There is an O-N switch located behind the magazine door. When used with the 113KCAS200 adapter or older head units, it must be set to the O position which disables CD text. When set to the N position it will display CD text when used with a compatible head unit.
- Note
- Warranty Note: Some units were incorrectly packaged with a 1 year warranty card. Per Kenwood, the actual warranty period is 2 years, parts and labor.
